Biography

Christian Redl is considered one of the best apnoea divers and is wellknown worldwide as one of the most successful in the spectacular extreme sport of free diving. Christian has set several impressive world records – whether apnoea diving, diving under ice or through dark caves, the mental component plays an important role during his activities.

Christian Redl worked in financial services, responsible for fund companies for institutional investors, before becoming a professional athlete. Inspired by the movie “The big blue” Christian Redl started free diving in 1996 and attended the first world championship in free diving the same year. Christian, born in Austria, founded AIDA-Austria (AIDA – Worldwide Federation of Breath-Hold Diving) and in 1998 Austria was represented by a team in the world championship for the first time. Christian organised the first Under Ice Hockey World Championship, looking for new challenges.
