Wolfgang Ischinger

Biography

Wolfgang Ischinger is President of the Board of Trustees of the Munich Security Conference Foundation, was Chairman of the Munich Security Conference until 2022 and is one of the Republic’s top diplomats. He is Senior Professor for Security Policy and Diplomatic Practice at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and works as an honorary professor at the University of Tübingen. Ischinger advises governments, international organizations and companies on political-strategic issues.

The studied lawyer and international law expert joined the Foreign Service in 1975. From 1998 to 2001 he was State Secretary of the Foreign Office. He worked as ambassador in Washington until 2006 and then in London until 2008. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Federal Cross of Merit and the Leo Baeck Medal, is a member of numerous supervisory and advisory boards, including the Atlantic Bridge, the American Academy and the Atlantic Council.
